MINI FINISH: October Block for Lakeside Needlecraft Durene Jones Fantasy SAL

Hello Stitchy Friends!

I wanted to share my most recent "Mini Finish" on my Lakeside Needlecrafts Durene Jones Fantasy SAL with you. I fell behind with this one way back in October. When the pattern came out for this block I knew that I wanted to try some alterations. I ended up removing the large second pumpkin that was originally charted and instead stitched a Witch's Cauldron pattern that is also a Durene Jone's design. I found it in a World of Cross Stitching Magazine. The witch with the cauldron in the magazine was very similar to the witch in the October block so I thought it would be a cute switch. I also love the Stoney Creek witch patterns and most of them call for turkey stitches to make the witch hair. Sooo I decided to try that for the first time as well.

Because I had all of these changes in mind, and my heart set on it working out because I really had it in my mind that this is what I wanted....I ended up procrastinating working on my project because I had never drastically changed a pattern other than color changes or switching a thread out...AND I had also never done turkey work either. I was too scared that it wouldn't turn out or it would look like a total mess. BUT I sucked it up and finally just finished it! Here is my result....

Didn't she turn out AWESOME?!?!? I was pretty excited about how it ended up looking! I had found a great tutorial on youtube on how to do the turkey work stitch. Here is the link. I also added a cute cat button and blingy spider button for some extra dimension as well.

Here are the other blocks that I have done so far...

This is the August Pegasus block. Changes I made to this one include using DMC satin floss for the rainbow, fuzzy stuff for the mane and tail, and wisper thread and kreinik for the wings. I used gold metallic thread for the hooves also. I also added beads and used kreinik for the "sky area".

Here is the September Wizard. I used Mo's Sale Satins for his robe and hat and their floss called Leaf Pile for the leaves. I used wisper thread for his beard to make it fuzzy.

And here are my three completed blocks together so far.

I have just the circles completed for all the other months except November and December and I need to still do all 20 years worth of border - LOL! There is A LOT of border on this one and these blocks are deceiving as well! There are well over 1000 stitches in each little section!

Now that I have my witch finished and she turned out like I envisioned I am excited to continue on this one! I don't have any plans to majorly alter a block like I did the October one in the next few that have been released...just maybe some minor changes to make it "my own version" :)

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great stitchy day!
Laura
